WEBSTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Mayer's Cider Mill is still going strong, even as the first structure was built in the 1800s, when orchards and other kinds of farmland surrounded Five Mile Line Road. After the orchard opened, the original owners started pressing cider. Dave Bower, the latest owner in a line of families to own Mayer's, still presses his cider the old-fashioned way, using layers of sheets and cheesecloth for a filtered drink, and they bottle them in glass. In the adjoining market, they serve sweet and hard cider, along with Mayer's Lake Ontario Winery, along with baked goodies and create your own kits for donuts, wine, and more. Bower says they even serve up bard cider battered fish fry on Fridays. Bower has been working here since he was two years old, so he's made some, or all, of the business available to the right person. But to this day, it's still a true labor of love. "The customers, I love my customers, I like interacting with my customers, and people say that all the time. They know me, they say he'll never give it up," he said. "But... I helped create a history of my time being here, keeping the legacy going after all these things, and it means a lot to me." Bower keeps that history on his site, which you can find here.
