FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - From a small bedroom setup to a thriving beauty spa, Cindy Martinez has transformed her personal struggles with mental health into a haven of relaxation. "I'm big on self-care because of all the things that I've been through. I'm like 60 minutes a whole month. It's nothing, you know? Just come and then pamper yourself," said Martinez. "Come relax, recharge, and then go back to doing your thing." For Martinez learning how to prioritize mental health and self-care started in 2019 when she struggled with postpartum depression. In 2020 her anxiety became another issue because of the pandemic. Her doctor prescribed benzodiazepine, and she quickly became addicted to the medication, something she says she wasn't  warned about by her doctor. "I couldn't function. I had body tremors. I have brain zaps, and it was all because of the meds," said Martinez. "So, I took a break, went into a rehab facility, came out of it, and I was really bad for two months. I couldn't get out of bed. I couldn't talk. I couldn't walk. It was horrible”. After completing her rehab program she went back to school to become a licensed esthetician, while also working in the fields picking fruit. "I would wake up at four in the morning, go work my whole 8 hours, and then right after that I would go back to school and finish my hours," said Martinez. "I did that for like about almost two months until I was able to get enough money to buy my machines, my back products, whatever I needed to get the whole thing going.” Martinez says her dedication to hard work and perseverance is something she says she's had since she was a little girl. "I feel like ever since I was a little girl, I've always had that drive in me," said Martinez. "My mom would always tell me, oh my goodness, when you were a little girl, you wouldn't ask for help. You would go and do things on your own." That drive pushed Martinez to own her own business.  Because Martinez has children, being able to make her own schedule by owning her own beauty spa was motivating. At first, she worked out of a bedroom in her home, but now she owns Beauty Therapy by Cinn a beauty spa located on First and Bullard offering facials for men, women, and teens. Martinez also offers a scalp treatment that is also relaxing and has gone viral across social media platforms. The first step is getting a close look at your scalp to identify any problems before heading back to lay down and relax. "Clients go and lay on my bed, and I say no phones allowed. If you have your apple watch, please take it off. Come and relax," said Martinez. "Sometimes they fall asleep. They take a little nap and they're like, oh my goodness, I feel amazing Cindy. I feel so, so good. I'm like, exactly. This is self love.” The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held next weekend on November 2nd from 2 to 5 p.m. at 728 E Bullard Suite 101, Fresno CA. Families are invited to come out and celebrate with food trucks, drinks, face painting for the kids, raffles, and a chance to win a skin care basket, along with a voucher for a service of their choice.
