TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Topeka community's newest Fiesta Topeka king and queen got some special recognition at Washburn University on Thursday. Each year, two young people are chosen for their outstanding fundraising for Our Lady Guadalupe church in Oakland. On Oct. 24, Washburn University recognized Gabriela Gutierrez and Esteban Tetuan with scholarships. Their hard work and philanthropy in the community earned them the honor of a nearly century-long tradition. "It just means a lot because I've always been a part of the Parrish and the Fiesta Topeka community," Gutierrez said. "It just meant a lot to me being able to be awarded and I'm just truly so grateful for it." Topeka scenery becomes movie set for new short film Topeka will celebrate its 92nd annual Fiesta next summer. For more local news, click here.
