PRAIRIE VILLAGE, Kan. -- Prairie Village Police are searching for two porch pirates after package thefts have been reported over the last two months. A neighbor near 95th and Roe caught one theft on camera. She said the person who stole the package was wearing an Amazon vest. Prairie Village Police Captain Ivan Washington said someone stole a package off a porch on October 9 around 11:30 a.m. The homeowner said the thief parked in front of their driveway and illegally stopped on the street. Moreland said he got into the passenger side of a white sedan and the vehicle drove off. “Stuff like that doesn't happen around here. So, it was pretty shocking,” Moreland said. “What if it's somebody's medication? And they don't even know what they're taking, just stop.” Moreland shared Ring Doorbell footage when the theft happened right outside her house. The footage shows a Fed-Ex driver dropping off her son's package just ten minutes before someone walks up holding a package. However, instead of dropping something off, the person takes the package. Seconds later, Moreland pops out the door to see what arrived only to find an empty porch. “I was frustrated, I was confused, I felt bad for my son, just heartbreaking for him,” Moreland said. “Yes, we can get it replaced, I understand that, but it's the principle of it. He worked really hard to save up for that.” Moreland said over the last six months, her 11-year-old put on several lemonade stands and tackled chores saving up to buy a smartwatch. “He ran up to his room and started crying,” Moreland said. A spokesperson at Amazon spoke with FOX4, saying: "We’re looking into this and recognize that, unfortunately, there are bad actors out there who wear look-alike apparel to commit porch piracy." Prairie Village Police are investigating as well. “We are actively investing all those tips and leads, then we have to do some digging, fact-finding before we can speak intelligently about who we think the suspect is,” Chief Washington said. About ten minutes north, near Nall and 65th Terr, Washington said a thief with "similar motives" stole a package off a porch in September.
