RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The mother of 24-year-old Dylan Poonsammy, who was shot and killed in Richmond's Southside three years ago, is continuing to call on the community to help police find the person responsible for her son's death. According to the Richmond Police Department, Dylan Poonsammy was shot in his back several times at 404 Rivertowne Apartments on Westover Hills Boulevard on the night of Oct. 24, 2021. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Dylan's mother, Sherry Poonsammy, said she and her family are still trying to wrap their heads around what happened in the three years since his death. IN 2023: ‘I just need answers’: Grieving mother still looking for answers 2 years after son’s death “Three years and it still feels like it was yesterday," Sherry Poonsammy said. "I just need to get some justice so that I could get some rest." In Nov. 2021, police arrested and charged a person with conspiracy to commit murder. They were later released because there was not enough information to keep them in custody. “A mother is still grieving," Sherry Poonsammy said. "His sons are growing older, asking for him day by day. All I ask -- it's not considered snitching it’s considered letting a family get some sort of relief and rest, knowing that justice has been served." While the Poonsammy family waits for a development in the case, they are working to keep his legacy alive so that those who continue to see his face and hear his name will remember him for the humble, loving and giving person they say he was. “Just put your foot in our shoes and feel, if this was your child, how you would feel? You would want closure," Sherry Poonsammy said. "I want closure as a mother." The Richmond Police Department is actively investigating Dylan's death. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Bridges at 804-646-8146 or by email at [email protected].
