EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Major General Chris Callahan has announced his retirement after over more than four decades of serving his country. Callahan has been the 44th adjutant general of Rhode Island and commander of the R.I. National Guard for the past nine years. A replacement will be selected by Gov. Dan McKee. According to Callahan, the governor will create a panel focused on interviewing candidates "over the next several weeks." Callahan said McKee's goal is to pick the next adjutant general sometime in late January.
