MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An East Memphis family is now left with a tow bill and a list of repairs after their car was stolen right out of their driveway, despite Kia's anti-theft update.  Annette Escobar says criminals are putting families like hers in a tough situation. Her 2021 Kia Sorento, the only transportation for her family of six, was stolen out of their driveway in East Memphis.  "My kids went outside to get in the car and it was just gone," she said. "It puts us more in a bind. I know there's a lot of single families out there that definitely depend on that car. It might be a crappy car to somebody else, but it's our everything to us." MPD says it happened Saturday in broad daylight. The SUV was found less than 24 hours later.  $61K in baby products seized at Memphis port due to high lead content The Escobars join the 8,000 Memphians whose cars have been stolen this year, according to Memphis Police data. "It was practically trashed from the inside," Escobar said. "They took everything they could, car seats. ... My name tag for work. The badge that I needed to pick up my kids." Her friend created a Gofundme account, knowing their four kids go to three diffrent schools. Annette's husband recently lost his job, forcing the family to make changes to their car insurance.  "How are we going to make money to be able to provide for our families?" Escobar said. "To other people I guess it is a vehicle, right? It is something material, but it impacts so much more on a deeper level." ► Click here for the Gofundme
