STURGEON BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - The Boys & Girls Club in Sturgeon Bay got a special surprise on Thursday morning when they received 100 free laptops. Sponsored by AT&T and Human-I-T, 100 refurbished laptops were handed out to preselected students who have limited access to the internet. According to the release, many students at the Boys & Girls Club of Door County lack access to technology at home or the devices necessary to complete their homework. Wisconsin Public Service crews return after successfully aiding Florida from hurricane damage "We are committed to ensuring that every child has access to the tools, resources and support so that they can be successful," Johanna Wicklund, the CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Bay & Lakes Region said. "Today's event is one step toward further closing the digital divide that affects a lot of Door County families." About 10% of households in Wisconsin don't have internet or devices that are essential in online participation, which is referred to as the 'digital divide,' according to the release. Wisconsin Public Service crews return after successfully aiding Florida from hurricane damage AT&T's Connected Learning initiative was created to address this digital divide, and they're committing $5 billion to aid 25 million people in getting high-speed internet by 2030.
