Baler fire burns five acres, causes $9,000 in damages in Fond du Lac County

FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) — A baler fire burned approximately five acres of land and caused around $9,000 in damages Thursday afternoon in Fond du Lac County.
According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on Oct. 24, 2024, when a landowner on State Highway 44 reported that his corn baler had caught fire, spreading flames into his 20-acre field.

Fire crews from Alto and Brandon-Fairwater were sent to the scene. While the baler was quickly extinguished, the fire had already spread to nearby corn bales and a recently cut cornstalk field.
The landowner reported the baler as a total loss, with damages estimated at $9,000. No injuries or additional property damage were reported.
