RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– A student at Spring Valley High was arrested and charged after officials say guns were found in his book bag. Richland County Sheriff’s Department says 18-year-old John Cook attempted to pass through the metal detectors with two firearms in his book bag. After the school’s SROs were notified by district security, they secured Cook and his belongings, says RCSD. SROs say they located two handguns in Cook’s book bag and both guns were loaded. The department also noted that neither guns were stolen. Cook was charged with two counts of weapons on school grounds and was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
