Oct 24, 2024
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins wrote a letter to the Department of Homeland Security in search of answers after a woman from China who illegally came into the country and might have exposed hundreds of inmates to a rare form of tuberculosis.
The woman was transported by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities in Monroe, Basile, and Lafayette.
"The illegal Chinese national has come into contact with hundreds of ICE detainees and numerous other individuals. This strain of TB is a rare, aggressive, and drug-resistant form that has been associated with high mortality rates. We must ensure detainees exposed to these deadly bacteria are not released into the interior to spread this sickness," said Higgins in the letter.
