BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A former Central Police officer was accused of filing inaccurate timesheet records and stealing over $7,500. The Central Police Department filed an arrest warrant against Lt. Huey Haley, 41, of Zachary, on charges of felony theft, 25 counts of filing false public records, public payroll fraud, malfeasance in office and filing false public records by alteration. According to an arrest warrant, between Oct. 16, 2023, and Oct. 13, 2024, Haley is accused of falsifying multiple pay records he submitted to the City of Central. These false records report over 300 unworked hours, resulting in an estimated $7,500 in payments to Haley. Haley has since resigned from the department, Central Police Chief Roger Corcoran said. "I immediately instructed my criminal investigator to perform a thorough audit of Haley’s previous time records," said Corcoran. "That investigation revealed numerous instances of alleged wrongdoing by Haley and resulted in the arrest warrant being issued." "We have been shaken by this violation of public trust by our most senior officer," said Corcoran. "Please know that Haley’s actions are in no way representative of the character and integrity of the hardworking men and women of the Central Police Department. While this is a dark day for us, we will persevere and move forward in a positive direction while we continue to serve our citizenry."
