BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Kern County Firefighters are set to grow their mustaches throughout October to raise funds for fellow brothers and sisters, as well as their families battling cancer. "Mustachefest" is a happy and exciting fundraiser, but it also has a serious cause behind it. Firefighters will grow out their mustaches in solidarity to raise money, collect and raffle off items, and help sell products. Dispute over bicycle led to deadly Ogden St shooting: docs Proceeds from the event will go towards setting up a fund to help pay for firefighter's medical bills, groceries, and gas bills during their darkest times, according to Battalion Chief Luke Roberts, Vice President of the Kern County Firefighters Union 1301. After years of being exposed to toxic environments, firefighters coming down with cancer later in their careers is sometimes part of the job. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards helping Kern firefighters. The event is happening Nov. 3, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Station 1301 Union Hall at 7900 Downing Ave. You can register, donate and sponsor the event at this link.
