URMC receives $30M from the Saunders Foundation for orthopedics, nursing school

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The University of Rochester Medical Center will receive $30 million towards orthopedics, dentistry, and nursing.
The funding comes from the Rochester-based private organization Saunders Foundation. The $25 million will support the groundbreaking of the UR Medicine Orthopaedics & Physical Performance Center. The center will be named in recognition of the Saunders Foundation.

The other $5 million will establish a new professorship in orthopedics at the School of Medicine and Dentistry and create new scholarships to support the goals of staff members at UR Medicine Noyes Health in Dansville.
The new professorship is named for Dean's Professor Michael Maloney, a renowned orthopedic surgeon and a friend of entrepreneur and philanthropist Phil Saunders.
“It’s no secret that the University of Rochester is one of the premier medical facilities in the country," Saunders said. "People come from all over to seek medical treatment from the gifted physicians on staff. Adding the Saunders Center for Orthopaedics & Physical Performance elevates the University and allows patients to receive the very best from this state-of-the-art facility."
