There are two main story lines working for this Friday’s final night of regular-season play for the Lower Bucks County Suburban One football teams. One is the matter of which teams will qualify for the playoffs, which get underway next week. The other is it’s so-called rivalry week as there will be four traditional head-to-head games between local teams that always get immense satisfaction from beating each other. The Pennsbury at Neshaminy game is the one with the biggest implications for the playoffs. Neshaminy is in the 16-team District 1 Class 6 field and a victory over its long-time rival would appear to secure a home game in the opening round of the playoffs. Pennsbury goes into the final week in the 16th and final playoff spot. Obviously, a win over the Redskins would result in Pennsbury qualifying for the playoffs and bumping up to as high as 12th. In the exact same spot as a year ago when it qualified with a win over Neshaminy to up its record to 5-5, it’s also possible Pennsbury could lose this game and still get in. Sitting behind the Falcons in the next three spots are Pennridge, Central Bucks East and Bensalem. Pennridge will be the underdog against C.B. South this week and the same goes for C.B. East against C.B. West. Bensalem is expected to beat Truman, but there aren’t a lot of points to be gained there because of Truman’s 1-8 record. Pennsbury (4-5) at Neshaminy (6-3), Friday, 7 p.m. — Neshaminy got blasted by C.B. South, 35-7, last week while Pennsbury was crushing Abington. 42-0. With six wins Neshaminy has really improved as the season went along and has the better record, but this game could go either way. For the most part the two teams have had similar results against common opponents. Expect a low-scoring game as both teams have been solid on defense. Neshaminy has the more balanced offense, but Pennsbury is very strong against the run. As such, look for Neshaminy quarterback Michael Eckart to come out throwing in one of the great rivalries in the Delaware Valley. There seems to be a little discrepancy in terms of the all-time series record, but one source has it listed at 43-43-7. Council Rock North (1-8) at Council Rock South (3-6), Friday, 7 p.m. — There have been some notable upsets between the sister schools, but Rock North would really have to pull off something really special here. Other than its one win against Truman, Rock North has given up at least 34 points in every game. Rock South has lost four of its last five games, but has been much more competitive against common opponents. This series is currently tied at 11 wins apiece. Bensalem (4-5) at Truman (1-8), Friday, 7 p.m. — The Owls are also a big favorite. Bensalem has been very productive on offense in this break-out season and nearly upset Upper Dublin last week. Truman has scored just 55 points in the last eight weeks. Bristol (6-1) at Morrisville (8-1), Friday , 7 p.m. — Bristol owns a 25-year winning streak against Morrisville and has looked very good of late. Morrisville (8-1) is having its greatest season in memory and will again have two shots to finally win against the Warriors because these two will also meet on Thanksgiving. Recent results suggest Bristol is again the favorite. Bristol crushed Lower Moreland, 40-8, and Jenkintown, 42-6. Morrisville lost to Lower Moreland, 20-14, and beat Jenkintown, 27-14. A key for Morrisvile is keeping it close because Bristol has had nearly all of wins locked up by the half. Conwell-Egan (5-3) at Archbishop Wood (2-6) Saturday, 1 p.m. —The Eagles come in hot with three wins in a row and have given up only six points during that span. A state power for years, Wood isn’t nearly the team it used to be, but certainly has a chance in a renewal of an old rivalry that hasn’t been played for years after Wood bumped up to the PCL Red Division.
