Westfield State University announces death of student

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Westfield State University has announced the death of one of its students.

Abbey Majka was from Agawam and was studying Environmental Science and Regional Planning at Westfield State. The dean of students released a statement saying, "As a university community we are heartbroken. During their years at Westfield State, Abbey made many close friendships with students, faculty, and staff alike and they will be missed by many."
Majka's younger sister, Erika is also a student at Westfield State. The circumstances surrounding Majka's death were not released. The University is offering counseling services to students and staff. They say Majka's family has asked for privacy at this time.
