CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Some spots in western Massachusetts saw a brief rain shower Thursday morning but that won't help when it comes to the drought.
Elevated fire concerns issued for western Massachusetts
When looking at September and October, the rainfall is well below average. In a span of nearly 60 days with September and October combined, Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee has recorded 1.32 inches of rain.
The average rainfall for the two months combined is 7.5 inches. That leaves much of western Massachusetts in a 6.18-inch rainfall deficit for the past two months.
When it comes to the drought monitor, most of Massachusetts is seeing abnormally dry conditions with now a moderate drought developing in western Franklin County, eastern Hampshire County and Berkshire County.
