A 56 year old male from Hartford died Thursday morning (Oct. 24, 2024, 6:28am) in a two-vehicle collision nine miles west of Sioux Falls. The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members. Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 1999 Harley Davidson was traveling westbound on SD Highway 42 near mile marker 350. At the same time, a 19 year old male from Sioux Falls was driving a 2016 Dodge Ram was eastbound on SD 42 and attempted to pass the vehicle in front of him by entering the westbound lane. While passing, he collided head-on with the approaching motorcycle. The driver of motorcycle passed away at the scene. The driver of the Dodge Ram sustained minor injuries. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
