MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Over $61,000 in baby products were seized at the Port of Memphis due to lab results discovering they had high led content and choking hazards. In July 2024, The U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Machinery Center of Excellence and Expertise (CEE) team targeted a shipment headed to Memphis. The shipment was inspected and specialists discovered that the items on the ship has been misclassified. The shipment consisted of infant strollers, swings, and highchairs. Reports say test results determined that high lead content was found in various parts of baby strollers and highchairs. As a result, on September 17, CBP Memphis was told to seize and destroy all of the merchandise in the shipment. In total, 1,209 items, valuing $61,161 were seized.
