LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — The North Lexington Public Library held an expungement clinic today for people looking to clean their record. “Today we are offering opportunities for individuals who may have had some prior justice involvement to come have their charges reviewed to determine whether those individual charges are available for potential expungement,” Workforce Development Manager Lori Davis said. In addition to meeting with attorneys to review their records, people who attended the clinic were also able to meet with several different organizations that provide several different resources including rehabilitation, insurance and education opportunities. “We want to make sure that our community members have the opportunity to come to us,” Davis said. She adds that she’s seen people who are in their twenties to people all the way in their eighties show up to have their record expunged. “This means freedom, it means an opportunity for a clean slate, a restart to go after the goals that they had intended to pursue,” she said. People with a criminal record often times face more difficulty in applying for jobs, finding housing and getting an education. “The main goal really is to be a place where people feel confident that they will get the information that they need to move forward in the expungement process,” Davis said. If you or someone you know is looking to have their record expunged, the next expungement clinic is next Wednesday starting at 10 a.m. at the Central Bank Center.
