A cold front passed through Central Indiana Wednesday afternoon. This is the main reason why Thursday morning started quietly and on a chilly note. Many spots got back into the 30s for lows. With an area of high-pressure centered overhead, it will keep our Thursday quiet and seasonable! Expect high temperatures in the 60s under abundantly sunny skies. Cold front #2 brings needed rain Friday The second cold front is on the move and will arrive here Friday. This is the front that's bringing our only rain chance in the next few days. It will be quick-moving and its activity will be scattered. The timing of this looks to be sunrise through lunch hour with the greatest coverage along and north of I-70. It will not be a big rainmaker as most spots will see a few hundredths of an inch. Some of the heavier downpours could produce isolated amounts closer to half an inch. Clouds will remain Friday night but the evening should be dry. The new drought monitor also came out Thursday morning. As expected, there were no improvements with it. More of Central Indiana was placed under a Moderate Drought. The remainder is abnormally dry. It's the driest October in 61 years for Indianapolis, too. If the Circle City doesn't receive 0.10" or more of rainfall, October 2024 will go down as the driest on record. Fall-like weekend before big-time warmth This October has also been a warm one running 3.6° per day above normal! We've had six days of 80s this month when we normally see three days. Following a sunny and crisp fall weekend, an upper-level ridge will build. Forecast highs Tuesday and Wednesday will be a good 15-20° above average with highs in the 70s. More 80° readings are not out of the question either. Halloween will be the opposite of 2023 with more ideal/comfortable trick-or-treating weather and NO snow.
