CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Music class at Palisades High was interrupted this week for the best of reasons, a simple gift. Charlotte Mechanical teamed up with Vera Guitars to donate $20,000 worth of guitars to the music program at the school on York Road. The looks on their faces? Priceless Jeff Zirkle of Vera Guitars said, “oh, I was absolutely amazed. It was one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen.” The huge gift expands what was before only a classroom set of instruments which means students will now be able to check them out to take home and practice; giving kids the same opportunity Charlotte Mechanical Co Owner Dan Dyszelski says is invaluable, “I’m a musician. My kids are musicians. Steve and Nancy’s kids are musicians. So it’s. You know, we have a connection. So we’re around it all the time.” Band director Jonathan Todd said the gift teaches kids more than just music, “it is a language. It is something very different than they do in their normal lives, in their normal classes. And then it also provides a connection to the other students in the room and helps create a community within the school and within the classroom. Students were just as excited and moved by the act of kindness.
