BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- A one-minute radio ad released by the Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome's campaign attacking Ted James starts with James' voice. James says he was secretly recorded and his words were edited misrepresenting a conversation he says he had with Broome's campaign manager M.E. Cormier in July. “A white man, a white man if he knows he’s got to deal with somebody Black he would rather deal with another man than a woman. It's (expletive) up. It’s screwed up and honestly, I get to take advantage of it," James can be heard saying in the recording. The ad claimed that James "changed his position on St. George in exchange for campaign cash.” In the recording, James is heard saying "I'm a woke MAGA guy." The James campaign wrote a letter demanding the ad be removed by noon Thursday, Oct. 24 or they will seek legal action. "The Sharon Weston Broome campaign has once again sunk to a new low by secretly recording, heavily editing, and misrepresenting a conversation Ted had with Broome’s campaign manager, ME Cormier at her request. Ted was quoting something he was told by a third party in one segment, and ridiculing the Mayor’s attacks on him as a MAGA guy in another," according to a statement released by the James campaign. Broome held a press conference late Wednesday afternoon responding to the James campaign. "We have no plans in this campaign to take down an ad that speaks the truth and add in the words of Mr. James himself this kind of information, words that we heard from Mr. James takes us backwards," said Broome.
