A man trying to break into a vehicle was apparently accidentally shot during a struggle with the owner early Thursday in Austin on the West Side, police said. Around 2:25 a.m., a 53-year-old man tried breaking into a car in the 300 block of North Mayfield Avenue when he was confronted by the owner, Chicago police said. A struggle followed one shot was accidentally fired, striking the man in the shoulder, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in good condition, officials said. Police initially said the man was intentionally shot by the owner of the vehicle. No further details were immediately available.
