Playoff positioning: Lake Catholic in Division IV, Region 13 and has clinched a first-round home game; NDCL is 12th in Division IV, Region 13 and will clinch a playoff berth with a win.
For the record: Area grudge matches don’t get much bigger than this. And there’s a lot on the line, especially for NDCL, which clinches a playoff berth with a win. But things get dicey if the Lions lose. … Lake Catholic is one of the area’s most well-rounded teams on both sides of the ball. Frankie Trinetti has thrown for 1,952 yards and 21 touchdowns, Jimmy Gibbons has run for 784 and the receiving group of Ace Peterlin, Cross Nimmo, Patrick Radigan and DJ Sears is one of the best in the area. … NDCL is very well balanced as well. Ryan Lipowski has thrown for 1,233 yards and 17 touchdowns, Angelo Tamburrino (614 yards) and Lipowski (499) anchor the running game, and Connor Hernan (33 catches, 412 yards) and Brendan Sawitke (25-285) are a nice 1-2 punch in the passing game. … Both teams have strong defensive power. NDCL’s Hernan leads the area with 19 TFLs and 12 sacks, while Lake’s linebackers Marty Loncar, Luke Joy, Gibbons and Jayson Cummings are fast and physical. … Lake Catholic leads the all-time series, 25-9, including five of the last six.
