FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Three people are safe after a house fire broke out on Fort Wayne's northeast side. Firefighters were called out to the home just after 1 a.m. Thursday. Residents in a home in the 4900 block of Hartford Drive called 911 to report smoke in their home, according to the Fort Wayne Fire Department. The three people were able to get out safely. When firefighters arrived, they found the fire in the bathroom on the second floor of the home. It also extended into the attic, according to FWFD. It took about 10 minutes to get the fire under control. It caused minor smoke and water damage, but moderate fire damage. The home did have working smoke detectors, according to FWFD. No one else was hurt. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
