October has been extraordinarily dry in the Charlotte area with only .01″ of rain recorded so far this month – don’t count on us adding to that total anytime soon. The sunny skies and warmer highs we’ve seen for the better part of the past four weeks continue through the remainder of this one. Expect highs in the upper 70s across the Piedmont and Foothills on both Thursday and Friday as temperatures top out closer to 70° in the High Country. The warmth takes another step up on Saturday as highs approach record territory in the lower 80s around the Metro. Enjoy the warmth while it lasts – a sharp cold front arrives by Saturday night, quickly restoring below-average temperatures as we close out the weekend. A stray shower or two may roll through the Piedmont Saturday evening, but most of the limited moisture will remain west of the Appalachians. The bigger story will be the noticeably cooler temperatures – highs will struggle to clear the mid-60s across the Piedmont and Foothills on Sunday as the High Country settles into the 50s. Temperatures rapidly recover into the 70s in the Queen City next week as the sunshine sticks around for the long haul. Today: Warm sunshine. High: 79°. Wind: N 5-10. Tonight: Clear and cool. Low: 47°. Wind: Light. Friday: Another nice day. High: 77°. Wind: SW 5-10. Friday Night: Remaining clear. Noticeably milder. Low: 54°. Wind: SW 5-10. Saturday: Sunny and toasty. High: 83°. Wind: NW 5-10.
