Former Bills broadcaster, WIVB sports director John Murphy inducted into NYS Broadcasters Hall of Fame

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Former Buffalo Bills broadcaster and WIVB sports director John Murphy was inducted into the New York State Broadcasters Hall of Fame in New York City on Wednesday night.
Murphy broadcasted the Bills for decades beginning in 1984, serving an an analyst alongside Van Miller until 1989, then returned in 1994 in the analyst role and then became the play-by-play broadcaster in 2003. He served in the role until 2023. While he was the broadcaster, he also served as a radio host.
Murphy was inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2019. His book, “If These Walls Could Talk: Buffalo Bills: Stories from the Buffalo Bills Sideline, Locker Room, and Press Box” was published in 2023. Earlier this year, he re-joined the WIVB team as a contributor, writing weekly columns about the Bills.
Other members of the class include WFAN and Fox Sports host Craig Carton and WHAM sports director Mike Catalana in Rochester.
