FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A Northeast Fresno nail salon is in search of answers as Fresno Police investigators search for a suspect following the theft of an ATM. A theft caught on camera by the nail salon's surveillance video. In it, a white Chevy Tahoe can be seen as it is backed straight through the glass storefront of Aqua Nails Bar on North Willow and East Nees Avenues in Fresno, right on the Fresno-Clovis border. After the shocking sight, the man police say is the suspect can be seen tying something to the ATM, then his car, as he drives away dragging the ATM out of the business. "Obviously, the right tools and they knew what they were doing. They probably scoped it out too before," said Luke Tran, public information officer with Fresno Police. Tran says the alarm at the business sounded in the dramatic robbery, which caused the business to call police just after 3 a.m. Officers would arrive to find the shattered storefront and multiple signs the ATM had headed east. "After driving off, the officers tried to follow the trail of debris and located it well into the city of Clovis," Tran said. Tran says they tracked the debris at least a few miles into Clovis, as he says the ATM was dragged the entire way. However, even with the literal trail of clues left behind, there is no suspect in custody and for now, they have gotten away with a big sum of cash. "There was a minimum of $10,000 in the machine based on the victim's statement," he said. After the ATM theft, the business has been left to pick up the pieces. A company was called in just hours later to fix the window and door frames, as plywood sits where the windows once did. Fresno Police say they now aim to get traffic cam video and any additional surveillance to help piece the case together, as they also warned other businesses with an ATM. "If they see that ATM machine through a window and there's no barrier through the windows, it's going to make it very tempting for them to steal it because it's an easy target," Tran said. Tran says that even though there is no suspect in custody yet, FPD is hopeful they'll get a clearer picture of who's responsible soon. If anyone knows anything about this case, or the person responsible, call the Fresno Police Department at 559-621-7000.
