PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — A local man’s career with Hasbro Inc. is coming to an end after 25 years. John Warden, a former director of design at Hasbro, was one of the 100 employees laid off on Wednesday, and said they “were all kind of blindsided.” Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks has cited “operational streamlining” as the reason for the cuts, adding the changes will “empower teams to make quicker decisions and deliver innovation faster.” “I think we were moving pretty quickly,” Warden said. “I feel sorry for a lot of my colleagues who are going to be missing out on a lot of the mentorship and some of the institutional knowledge that was lost with some of these layoffs.” Warden’s goal as a child was to work for Hasbro, and after 25 years of employment at the toy company, the childhood dream has come to an “abrupt end.” Despite the sudden change, he is still thankful for being able to make his dreams come true. “I think not a lot of people can say that they had the chance to do what they wanted to do when they were little kids,” Warren said. “It’s a pretty amazing experience and I’m so thankful for it.” Warden said some of his favorite memories with Hasbro were the people he met along the way, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and the creators of the Transformers brand. Hasbro is set to release its quarterly earnings report on Oct. 24, as the company considers moving its headquarters from Pawtucket, Rhode Island to Massachusetts. Categories: News, Rhode Island
