INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man has been found guilty of killing another man during a heated exchange two years ago. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office announced Wednesday that David Ice was convicted for the murder of Darryl Ransom following the conclusion of a two-day jury trial. Indy man accused of murder while on GPS monitoring According to previous reports, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched on June 3, 2022, around 10:20 p.m. to a residence on North Dearborn Street in response to reports that a person had been shot. MCPO said detectives spoke with Ransom's son who told them he was upstairs inside the residence when he overheard the victim speaking with someone. He reported seeing a man, who was later identified as Ice, wearing a gray sweatshirt and sweatpants and having a conversation with his father. The son recalled hearing multiple gunshots ring out after he returned upstairs. MCPO said other witnesses confirmed Ice as the shooter. Police reports at the time showed that detectives believed the fatal shooting stemmed from an argument over money owed following a drug deal. Previous reports indicate Ice was wearing a GPS monitor at the time of the murder, which helped detectives determine his location on North Dearborn Street near the scene. Ice was apprehended without further incident and brought to the IMPD Homicide Office for additional questioning. Ice's arrest came less than one month after he pleaded guilty to two different felony charges. Ice had previously been charged with a felony count of battery after being accused of assaulting a co-worker at the Salvation Army building on East Washington Street. Ice was also charged with auto theft and illegal driving in a separate case. As part of the plea agreement, Ice was sentenced to two years with time suspended and ordered to wear a GPS monitor and complete anger management classes. “Simple disputes leading to homicides continue to be the most alarming trend we see in our community,” said Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears. “This kind of senseless gun violence is unacceptable, and we will continue to advocate on behalf of victims and for the safety of our residents." Ice does not have a sentencing date at this time. Another hearing is scheduled for Nov. 25.
