MAIDEN, N.C. — An accused killer is behind bars in Maiden after shooting a mother and her two parents. Neighbors held a vigil to grieve the family and bring comfort to a 10 year old survivor. Police said Issac Nathaniel Christenbury is accused of shooting and killing 28-year-old Jenna Lynn Cox and her parents, Cyndi Marie and Charles Kevin Cox, who are both aged 61. Christenbury has since been charged with three counts of first-degree murder. If he is convicted, Christenbury could face life in prison or the death penalty. Investigators confirmed Christenbury had a dating relationship with Jenna Cox, and believe that may have been the motive behind this attack. Officers said a 10-year-old boy was in the home at the time of the shooting. Peggy Beeson lives just across from the Cox’s home on PJ McRee Road. Beeson said she heard several gunshots before a young boy came running to her for help. “[He] came up between mine and my husband’s car, up to the walk and everything, grabbing ahold of me,” Beeson said. “Telling me that his grandparents just got shot in the head and killed and said that the guy put a gun to him and told him to run.” Beeson’s husband was the first to call police. Beeson said she hugged the boy and kept him safe until officers arrived. “He was pretty much glued to me,” Beeson said. “I’m just worried about what’s going to happen to him now.” A vigil was held for the Cox family Wednesday outside of Malorie’s Place Peer Support Center in Maiden. Friends, family, and neighbors showed up. Candles were lit as police officer’s and school leaders spoke to the mourning crowd. The 10-year-old survivor was there and was hugged and comforted by the crowd. Neighbors say the boy is staying with family. Christenbury is currently being held without bond as he awaits a hearing date on Nov. 12.
