Giants co-owner John Mara delivered a vote of confidence in GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll on Wednesday night that bodes well for both men to continue in their positions into the 2025 season. “Obviously we’re all very disappointed with where we are right now,” Mara said at The Paley Center for Media in Manhattan. “But I’m gonna say one thing: we are not making any changes this season. And I do not anticipate making any changes in the offseason, either. “I still have confidence in both of them,” he added later. Mara stood by his GM and coach after a special screening of a new documentary film on his late father titled “The Duke: Wellington Mara’s Giant Life.” The Giants have a 2-5 record after Sunday’s 28-3 loss to Saquon Barkley and the Eagles. They are 1-10 against their biggest rivals, the Eagles and Cowboys, during Schoen and Daboll’s three years. And they have a 17-23-1 overall record in the regular season, including a playoff berth and win in 2022 and 6-11 disaster in 2023 that led to a coaching exodus from on the building. Mara said one quality he believes he can learn from his father is patience, after firing his previous three head coaches either during or after their second seasons. “I think try to be more patient than maybe I’ve been in recent years. He preached that all the time,” Mara said of Wellington. “And I’ve probably been guilty of not being patient enough in recent years. And that’s one of the reasons I’m committed to Joe and Brian Daboll and giving them a chance to turn this around.” Mara said he still believes in Schoen and Daboll because of “the process that they have. Being in the meetings with them. Talking about where they see this going forward. Talking about their evaluation of our personnel.” The Giants co-owner admitted that patience is “very difficult” in a time like this “because the last 10 or 12 years have not been very good for our fans, and it makes it particularly difficult. “But you’ve got to do the right thing,” he added. “And we’re committed to doing that. We’re committed to seeing this process through.”
