Two people died and one was injured in a crash on state Route 905 in Otay Mesa on Tuesday afternoon following a Border Patrol pursuit, authorities said. Border Patrol agents were involved in a vehicle pursuit around 2:20 p.m. prior to the fatal crash, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesperson said. The crash, which involved a Caltrans vehicle, occurred on the westbound side of the freeway at Britannia Boulevard shortly before 2:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The wreck forced the closure of the westbound side of the freeway while cleanup and investigation were completed. The two people who died were from Mexico, according to the Mexican Consulate. The person who was injured was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries, the CHP said. No other details about what led up to the pursuit or crash were released by CHP or the Border Patrol.
