This week in Salem, attend a musical performance at Willamette University or South Salem High school, dress up in a glamorous outfit and mask for a masquerade or spend a night visiting Salem’s bars in your Halloween costume.  Local productions of “Footloose” and “Evil Dead: The Musical” are also opening this week. Here’s the lineup of Salem events for the week from Thursday, Oct. 24, to Wednesday, Oct. 30. Salem’s Masquerade Ball Saturday, Oct. 26: Come to the Reed Opera House, 189 Liberty St. N.E. Suite 300, for Salem’s third annual Masquerade Ball, and enjoy a night of mystery and enchantment at one of the most anticipated events of the year. Put on your most glamorous masquerade mask and dance the night away. There are prizes for best individual mask/costume and best couple mask/costume. Throughout the night there will be raffle prizes. The event is from 6-10 p.m., with a band starting at 7p.m. Tickets are $41.32 with fees and the event is 21+ only. Oregon jiu-jitsu championship Saturday, Oct. 26 & Sunday, Oct. 27: Jiu-jitsu practitioners and spectators can watch Oregon’s biggest jiu-jitsu tournament this weekend in the Jackman Long building at the Oregon State Fair & Exposition Center, 2330 17th St. N.E. The 18th annual Oregon Open Jiu Jitsu Championship is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The championship includes divisions for ages 5 and up, 30 and up and 40 and up. Registration can be done online here. Parking is $5 per vehicle, and more information about the event is available online.  Halloween fun For people looking for sweet, family-friendly Halloween activities, Salem Reporter gathered local trick-or-treat events, festivals and costume contests in a list earlier this week.  Ways to celebrate Halloween around Salem: Trunk-or-Treats, festivals, costumes and candy Unless otherwise noted, the following events are recurring through the end of October. Get spooked at Mill Creek Correctional Facility, 5465 Turner Rd. S.E., this Halloween season. The old prison has been transformed into the Mill Creek Haunted Prison by Salem’s Tormented Illusion. The haunted prison haunted house experience costs $30 per person, the ghost tours $20 and less scary guided tours cost $15. There is also a less scary haunted prison experience for children which costs $15 per person. More info and tickets can be found online.  Take in an interactive horror experience with “Ghosts of the Grand.” Explore the haunted corridors of a 124-year-old theater, from the eerie balcony to the mysterious ballroom, and venture into hidden spaces like the basement, tunnels and a secret speakeasy. Events take place most days of the week and start at 6 p.m., and tickets start at $22. The theater is at 187 High St. N.E. Runs through Nov. 2. (Laura Tesler/Special to Salem Reporter) The Nightmare Factory returns to provide hair-raising frights at the Oregon School for the Deaf, 999 Locust St. N.E. The haunted house, designed and built each year, is run by students. The haunted house is open 7-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, as well as on Tuesday, Oct. 30, and Halloween. Tickets start at $20 per person and can be bought online or at the event. Brave the haunted corn maze at Fordyce Farms on Friday and Saturday nights in October. Runs from 7-9:30 p.m. Admission $16. Not recommended for young children. May be canceled in case of heavy rain; check the farm website or Facebook page for latest information. The farm is located at 7023 Sunnyview Rd N.E. *Friday, Oct. 25: Time to get chilly and frilly at the Salem Public Library with HallowQueen Drag Show from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Loucks Auditorium. The free event features local drag queens Flawless Shade, Ry Bred and Ed Du Bull. The event is only for adults and seating is first-come, first-seated.  Saturday, Oct. 26: Cherry City Roller Derby presents a doubleheader Monster Mash-up bout at the Madhouse, 1335 Madison St. N.E. Family-friendly, costumes encouraged, and food and drink available for purchase. Doors at 3:30, juniors bout at 4:30 p.m., adult bout at 7 p.m. Tickets $14.64 in advance, $33.85 for a family package. Kids 5 and under are free. Saturday, Oct. 26: Check out the best drinks downtown Salem has to offer with the Halloween Bar Crawl, running from 4-10 p.m. The bar crawl starts at The Dehn Bar, 157 Commercial St. S.E. Tickets range from $10-30, and include a few free drinks for the night. The event is only for ages 21+.  Saturday, Oct. 26 & Sunday, Oct. 27: Celebrate Halloween at Powerland Heritage Park with “Saving Neverland: A Pirate Adventure.” The family-friendly, non-scary adventure includes a hunt for skeletons wreaking havoc at the park and other kids’ activities. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekends at 3995 Brooklake Rd. N.E. Tickets $18 for adults and $14 for kids. *Sunday, Oct. 27: Willamette Heritage Center’s Drive-Thru Trick-or-Treat returns for its fifth year of giving people an early chance to trick-or-treat and show off their Halloween costumes. The Candy Crew, people from local nonprofits and businesses, will hand out candy along a decorated route through the center’s parking lot, 1313 Mill St. S.E. The drive-thru event is free and available to cars and bikes only. It runs from 12-4 p.m. Canine trick or treaters were welcome at the Willamette Heritage Center’s Drive-Thru Trick-or-Treat event on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023 (Laura Tesler/Special to the Salem Reporter) Sunday, Oct. 27: Gilbert House Children’s Museum is hosting its annual “Halloween Re-Engineered” on the sidewalk and parking lot outside of the museum from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Trick-or-treaters will get candy delivered to them by the museum’s gizmos and machines. Children, and everyone else, can dress up in costume to enjoy the Halloween activities, crafts and sweets. Tickets cost $10 and don’t include museum access. The museum is located at 116 Marion St. N.E., more information about the museum is available online.  Wednesday, Oct. 30: Center 50+ is hosting a Harvest Party Volunteer Fair to celebrate its more than 450 volunteers and provide information about local volunteer opportunities. Thirty organizations are joining Center 50+ to connect new volunteers with projects around Salem. The fair is from 2-4 p.m. at Center 50+, 2615 Portland Rd. N.E. Information can be found on the city’s Facebook.  Harvest festivals at local farms are in full swing. Salem Reporter rounded up a list of local farms and fall festivals for people to enjoy corn mazes, apple cider and pumpkin patches. A slice of local harvest festivals around Salem Live music, comedy, improv and other entertainment Infinity Room, 210 Liberty St. S.E. #150 Friday, Oct. 25: Start off the night with humor and wrap it up with a burlesque performance. Comedians Marina Wool and Montana Burke are hosting a comedy and burlesque night for ages 21+ that starts at 9:30 p.m. Both Wool and Burke are full of wit and opinion, which will be on full display during the night, whether it’s unique takes on everyday things or commenting on modern dating. Tickets are $15 online, $20 at the door. Doors open at 9 p.m. Elsinore Theatre, 170 High St. S.E. Friday, Oct. 25: Enjoy a modernized version of the comedy Men Are From Mars – Women Are From Venus LIVE! When Mars and Venus collide, the adventures are earth-shatteringly hysterical. It’s a great recipe for a date night out: a little storytelling blended with some comedy and a dash of sage wisdom from the book. The show is for adults. Tickets are $55 in advance and $60 on show day. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26: Comedian Nick Swardson will tickle the hard issues of diarrhea, edibles and Norm MacDonald. Swardson is a well-known standup comedian, actor, writer and producer. Tickets start at $39.50. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27: Paranormal investigator Amy Bruni will take to the stage with her show “Walking with Ghosts: Real Life Hauntings with Amy Bruni” telling hair-raising tales from her countless hours hunting ghosts at America’s most haunted locations. By the end of the night, you will question everything you thought you knew about the spirit world, and life after death.” Tickets start at $35. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29: The work of filmmaker Warren Miller, who died in 2018, will be on display Tuesday for his show titled “75”. With original segments and unique collaborations, this year’s film will set the tone for the next 75 years of ski and snowboard filmmaking. Tickets are $23, or $20 each for groups of 10 or more. Doors open at 6 p.m. and showtime is at 7 p.m. Find more information about the show on Miller’s website. Wednesday, Oct. 30: Greg and Dana Newkirk, of the shows “Kindred Spirits” and “Hellier,” will present their interactive show Haunted Objects Live! The Newkirks will take you on a journey through history, folklore, and true-life accounts of encounters with objects that seem to possess a life of their own. Those who attend can also help the Newkirks create a new haunted artifact, live and in person without lifting a finger. Tickets start at $29. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Other venues Friday, Oct. 25: The Sinaloan music groups Banda MS, Los 2 De La S, and Plan de Escape will perform on Friday at the pavilion at Oregon State Fair & Exposition Center, 2330 17th St. N.E., starting at 8 p.m. General admission for the show costs $60 and parking costs $10. More information about the concert is available online.  Friday, Oct. 25: The Oregon Symphony debuts its Salem season with a performance of “Dvořák’s “New World Symphony” and other works. Show at 7:30 p.m. in Willamette University’s Smith Auditorium, 270 Winter St. S.E. Tickets begin at $25. Oregon Symphony violinists Peter Frajola, right, and Erin Furbee, left perform at the Riverfront Park amphitheater Tuesday, June 21 as part of Make Music Day (Ron Cooper/Salem Reporter) Sunday, Oct. 27: Join Salem Symphonic Winds for their 50th anniversary season featuring cello soloist Joseph Harchanko performing “Angelo del Cielo” by Giacomo Puccini and “Casanova,” a cello concerto by Johan de Meij. Show at 3 p.m. at South Salem High School’s Rose Auditorium, 1910 Church St. S.E. Tickets $22.30 for adults, 6.52 for youth 18 and under. Live theater and cinema Salem Cinema, 1127 Broadway St. N.E. Thursday, Oct. 24 & Saturday, Oct. 26: Watch a Tears For Fears concert film recorded in 2023, featuring their hits and new music from their recent album “The Tipping Point.” The Thursday show is at 7 p.m. and the Saturday show is at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 day-of. Friday, Oct. 25-Monday, Oct. 28: There are four showings of “Young Frankenstein,” the beloved spoof starring Gene Wilder. The show will be at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 3:30 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Tickets are $9. Saturday, Oct. 26: “The Witches,” starring Angelica Huston and Jim Henson’s puppets, will play at noon. Tickets are $9. Monday, Oct. 28: “House on Haunted Hill,” a classic horror movie starring Vincent Price will show at 6 p.m. Tickets are $9.  Tuesday, Oct. 29: The original “Nightmare on Elm Street” will play at 7 p.m. Tickets are $9. Wednesday, Oct. 30: Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining,” starring Shelley Duvall and Jack Nicholson, will play at 7 p.m. Tickets are $9. Other venues  Thursday, Oct. 24-Nov. 2: “Footloose,” a musical based on the beloved 80s movie, will be performed at the Pentacle Theatre, 324 52nd Ave. N.W. The play follows a teen who pushes back on his small town’s ban on dancing. Shows will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are sold out. Thursday, Oct. 24-Nov. 3: “Evil Dead: The Musical” combines classic horror films for one of the craziest, funniest, and bloodiest theatrical experiences of all time. The Mid-Valley Theatre Network production runs at Chemeketa Community College, 4000 Lancaster Dr. N.E., Building 6, with shows Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $22.69 for the “safe zone” and $38.58 for the “splash zone.”  Markets and shopping Thursday, Oct. 24-Sunday, Oct. 27: A five day long children’s consignment event, Baby’s Bottom Dollar Sale, is coming to Columbia Hall at the Oregon State Fair & Exposition Center, 2330 17th St. N.E. The pop up event wants to help take clothes off of parents’ hands and save money with affordable, new clothes for their children. Shopping is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. Parking for the event costs $5. More info on the sale can be found online. *Wednesday, Oct. 30: Epilogue Kitchen is hosting a Halloween market with delicious food and vendors to shop from. Epilogue Kitchen partners with Drippy Charmz, a small jewelry business, and other local vendors to bring people music, art and a chance to show off your Halloween costumes. Some vendors included Melissa Rivers Art, Rofe Designs and U-Nee-Kee Pottery. The market is from 6-9 p.m. at Epilogue Kitchen, 508 State St.  Every Saturday from Oct. 12-March 15 is the Indoor Winter Market at Wavra Farms. The farm’s greenhouses host the weekly marketplace, which has over 40 rotating vendors. Wavra Farms is located at 7882 Jordan St. S.E. Salem Reporter reported on the market’s opening last year.  Every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. is the Salem Public Market at 1240 Rural Avenue S.E. The Salem Saturday Market is 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at 865 Marion St. N.E. The Saturday Market ends Saturday, Oct. 26.
