OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) -- The founder of Bay Area Run Club is recovering from a $30,000 loss. He was robbed at gunpoint at a park in Oakland. "I don't want to get shot. I don't want to, like, escalate anything. I don't want to die," Bay Area Run Club founder Jacob Zlobinsky. Ahead of an event, Zlobinsky asked his younger brother to help him with a video shoot last Thursday to promote an upcoming 5K run for the social group he founded earlier this year called "Bay Area Run Club." They met close to midnight at Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland. Oakland voted #1 Best Food City in U.S. by Condé Nast: ‘no wrong neighborhood’ "And, then out of nowhere, two guys walk up from me from behind and then one pulls out a gun -- basically, like, points it at me," Zlobinsky said. Zlobinsky says the two suspects wearing ski masks, then stole all of his stuff: camera and lighting gear. A drone, batteries and external hard drives totaled at least $30,000 in losses. "They took all the stuff -- walked away," Zlobinsky said. "I'm not gonna chase a guy away with a gun. Yeah, and I had to make sure my little brother was ok first." Both were unharmed. Zlobinsky says police phone lines were tied up for hours that night and his non-emergency calls were not answered. He eventually filed a report with the police in person. "I wouldn't necessarily say, 'oh, because it's Oakland I got robbed.' But, I mean, there is an issue with people getting robbed and stuff like that over in the East Bay. And, we know that. And, it's not like something new," Zlobinsky said. Khazar Momeni defends her brother on the stand But Zlobinsky says it certainly does get old. Meanwhile, Zlobinsky has launched an online fundraiser to help recover from the financial loss. "Car, camera equipment. I have a mortgage. I have company bills to pay. It's just -- yeah, it was, like, the last thing I really needed at this point, honestly," Zlobinsky said. No arrests have been announced.
