Winfield man's remains found in motel fire in Canada

DEER LAKE, NL, Canada (KSNW) -- A Winfield man is dead following a motel fire in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police West District General Investigation Section says human remains were recovered Wednesday from a fire at the Driftwood Inn Motel in Deer Lake that happened Oct. 19. He was reported missing after the fire and was not accounted for until today.

He is identified as Eugene Earl “Gene” Spoon, 77, of Winfield. Spoon's obituary says he was in Deer Lake for a d"ream moose hunt trip."
The RCMP says the fire is still under investigation, and the cause has not been released.
