Stacy Park, with its 32 acres along the banks of the Delaware River, has been a vital green space for Trenton residents, offering everything from jogging trails to picnic areas. The recent investment of over $100,000 in state grant funding to clear away overbrush and debris that blocked our access to the river view is not merely an expenditure; it’s a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Trentonians. Historically, the park has provided access to the river and a serene environment for families and individuals. This renovation aims to restore the vistas of the Delaware as they were intended and as they looked 50 years ago, creating a space where people can come together to enjoy nature, exercise, and relax. The clearing of invasive species and dead trees is not just a maintenance task; it’s an essential step in revitalizing the park’s natural beauty and usability. Trenton’s Stacy Park c. 1970.(Courtesy of City of Trenton) Our phased renovation plan includes significant upgrades: restoring the historic comfort station, which is over 100 years old; adding picnic tables, benches, and grills for family gatherings; and introducing playgrounds for our children. This next phase, costing $350,000, will also be funded by grant dollars. We’re dedicated to making Stacy Park a place where families can gather, where children can play, and where everyone can reconnect with the natural world. Moreover, the project emphasizes sustainability, incorporating native plants and pollinator meadows to support our local ecosystem. These improvements are not just enhancements; they are investments in the future of our environment. As we move forward, we invite all Trentonians to visit the trail along the Delaware to celebrate the progress and the possibilities ahead. The revitalization of Stacy Park is not just about aesthetics; it’s about fostering community spirit and ensuring that our parks serve everyone. It is a commitment to improving our city, promising a bright future that will benefit our community for generations to come. W. Reed Gusciora, Mayor, City of Trenton
