The top four boys soccer seeds for the Colonial Valley Conference Tournament will continue their fight for the first title Thursday night with the semifinal round at Hopewell Valley High’s Ackerson Field. Each game will feature a rematch from these teams’ important regular-season Colonial Division clashes. Thursday’s 5 p.m. clash features third-seeded Steinert (13-2-3) versus second-seeded Princeton (12-2-3). For those who cannot be in attendance, this game will be live streamed on wbcbsports.com and on the WBCB Sports Facebook page. Head coach Ryan Walsh’s Tigers will be looking to erase the memory of a 2-0 home setback versus head coach Anthony Tessein’s Spartans back on Oct. 8. Meanwhile, Steinert is playing with a chip on its shoulder since the Spartans defeated Princeton and Notre Dame (1-0 Oct. 15), plus were the only CVC team to put a blemish on Robbinsville’s 15-0-2 record with a 1-1, double-overtime tie back on Oct. 1. Tessein’s troops played all of those games on the road. Yet, they were given a third seed for the tournament, whose seedings were determined by power points. Princeton advanced by defeating 10th-seeded Trenton, 2-1, in Monday’s quarterfinal round. Steinert put up the same score to fend off sixth-seeded Lawrence that day. In Thursday’s second semifinal, slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff, fourth-seeded Notre Dame (15-5) will get a return match with top-seeded Robbinsville (15-0-2). These two boys’ squads, coached by brothers, Bryan and Jeff Fisher, respectively, have the most wins in the area. The Ravens beat the Irish, 3-2, in overtime Sept. 24 at R’ville’s Stephen J. Mayer Athletic Complex, a loss that did not sit well with the Irish, who have outscored opponents, 89-17, this year. ND advanced by defeating fifth-seeded Hopewell Valley, 3-1, Monday night. The same day, Robbinsville, which had a first-round bye after earning the new tourney’s top seed, pulled out a 2-1 OT win over eighth-seeded West Windsor-Plainsboro South. The semifinal survivors will return to Ackerson Field Saturday for a 2 p.m. championship game after Scholastic Aptitude Tests are held earlier in the day. If any of Thursday’s or Saturday’s games finished tied after 100 minutes, penalty-kick shootout rounds will be held until one team comes out on top, much like in the now defunct Mercer County Tournament, which this tourney replaced.
