TOPEKA (KSNT) - A downtown Topeka business specializing in a wide selection of beer for patrons to choose from will be shutting down soon. Ryan Cavanaugh, co-founder and president of Brew Bank, announced on social media in a video on Wednesday, Oct. 23 that his business will be closing, "barring some miracle," in early November. "We've really tried everything under the sun to boost business, to get people through the door, to get downtown going, to incorporate ourselves into every possible facet of this that we can," Cavanaugh said. "And we've done that, diligently for about three years and it's just not panning out to be something we can survive." Cavanaugh said his business is raising funds now to help give the remaining staff a bonus to help give them a proper send off. A "funeral/celebration of life" will also be announced in the near future to celebrate Brew Bank's time in Topeka. Topeka Cat Café marks 100 cat adoptions since opening Brew Bank opened in 2019 under co-founders Cavanaugh and Dusty Snethen offering guests a variety of beers and other drinks to choose from, many coming from other local breweries. The business won a $100,000 loan through a "Shark Tank" competition in 2018 to help it get started. Brew Bank can be found at 822 South Kansas Avenue.
