CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The U.S. confirms North Korea sent troops to Russia, rattling Western allies and escalating Moscow's war in Ukraine. The U.S. has confirmed that 3,000 North Korean troops have deployed to Russia and are training at several locations, That's twice the number of troops South Korean intelligence reported last week. The U.S. called the move very serious and warned that those forces will be “fair game” if they go into combat in Ukraine. We asked Congressman Neal today about whether the U.S. should be involved, "Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr. part of their career success was based on standing up to Soviet aggression," says Neal. "So if it's Crimea or Georgia and now Ukraine, anybody who thinks that Poland or Bulgaria and some of these other nations are not next, they're making a miscalculation. So I think the posture that's been adopted by the president in Congress right now is the correct one." So far, the U.S. treaty ally has only provided Ukraine with non-lethal aid, but now it's considering providing defensive and even offensive weapons. Reports of North Korean soldiers fighting for Russia have also sparked debate about whether European countries should send their own troops.
