OTERO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – A federal appeals court has upheld the conviction against former Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin for his role in the January 6 attack on the Capitol. He was convicted for illegally entering the capitol grounds of Congress on January 6, 2021. His lawyers said that since there were no signs, Griffin didn't know he was in a restricted area. The U.S. Court of Appeals ruled there were signs and areas roped off from the public because the crowd, which Griffin was a part of, knew Vice President Mike Pence was there. The court upheld his conviction.
