A former Riverside County school counselor has pleaded guilty to creating child porn by hiding a camera near toilets and showers at a school and a bible camp. Matthew Daniel Johnson, a 34-year-old from Bryan, Texas, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to production of child pornography and possession of child pornography, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release. Johnson was discovered to be in possession of child pornography when law enforcement searched his home in 2020, and he admitted that he'd hidden a camera in a bathroom across the hall from his office at La Sierra Academy in Riverside to "capture the genitals of minor boys using the toilet," officials said. "Johnson further admitted to using and employing a minor victim in January 2020 for the purpose of creating a visual depiction of the victim engaging in sexual conduct," the release said. In total, law enforcement found more than 100 videos depicting more than 60 children under the age of 12, including some as young as 3 to 5 years old. Johnson was remanded into federal custody after his guilty plea. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 5, 2025, and he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in federal prison with a maximum sentence of 50 years.
