PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police said a man has been taken into custody after holding his fiancé hostage on Wednesday.
Just before 4 p.m., Providence police were dispatched to Douglas Avenue after a clinician requested a well-being check on a man who made self-harming threats.
Upon arrival, the 61-year-old man threatened officers and claimed to be inside the house with his fiancée.
After several hours of negotiation, the man released his fiancée and discarded a knife, according to Col. Perez.
The man attempted to throw a bottle at police, who then deployed a taser.
Police said the man was taken into custody and will be transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
