There were a lot of law enforcement officers present, but no one was injured during an incident Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 23, 2024) at the Hughes County Courthouse in Pierre. Information from the Pierre Police Department says at approximately 1pm CT, Pierre Police and the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a mental health situation involving a firearm in the courthouse parking lot. Due to the seriousness of the report, there was a large presence of law enforcement at the courthouse, but situation was quickly and peacefully resolved. Because this is a mental health situation, no further information will be released.
