NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) — The University of Oklahoma has temporarily suspended the Nu Omega chapter of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. OU's FIJI fraternity is under investigation for allegations of hazing, and while rumors are flying the university is not releasing details, sending News 4 the following statement: "The OU Office of Student Conduct and the international headquarters of Phi Gamma Delta have temporarily suspended operations of the OU FIJI chapter due to misconduct and hazing allegations from September 2024. The chapter is currently undergoing the conduct process." Kesha Keith, Director of Strategic Initiatives Students on campus said they aren't surprised to hear about the hazing allegations. "It's just crazy to hear about," said Sarah Wisniewski, a student. Students also want details and are considering the consequences. "I mean, if I hear that someone is like a frat or sorority is hazing that I know, I wouldn't want to be a part of it," said Wisniewski. "It's definitely pretty much how you get into a frat, it seems. But some of it's actually extreme, just like what with what this frats doing," said Max Lalli, a student. We went to the fraternity house, but the woman who answered shut the door on us. Groundbreaking for new Oklahoma Aviation Academy facility FIJI's international office did not speak on camera but said in a statement they're cooperating. The International Fraternity temporarily suspended its Nu Omega Chapter at the University of Oklahoma following allegations of hazing last month and has worked collaboratively with the University to investigate. The Chapter will remain temporarily suspended until the allegations are adjudicated. Rob Caudill, Executive Director "Just sounds like a physical abuse to me. I feel like that's a little unnecessary. There's definitely other ways you can approach a hazing," said Lalli. Students said they'll follow the case and that abuse has no place in college life. "I mean, I don't want to go through that," said Wisniewski. "Definitely deserved. Maybe don't disband the frat, but definitely need to learn from this mistake that they made," said Lalli. The university is not releasing details on what prompted the hazing investigation. The Norman Police Department said no report has been filed with them.
