MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It has been a challenging first six months on the job for school Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins, who faced a quarterly report presentation this week. But there were some emotional moments during a school board meeting Tuesday night, when a board member asked Feagins what she was most proud of in her tenure. "People, leaders who keep showing up every day committed to something they can't see," she responded. "Doing this work, I didn't do it for thanks or for applause when certainly you can't get across what's happening behind closed doors, the unseen things. Feagins is facing an upcoming performance evaluation. Camalyn Turner, the woman hired as her Special Assistant suddenly resigned last week. Special assistant to MSCS superintendent Feagins resigns In August, George Harris, the executive director of safety and security stepped away for personal reasons, and two former school board members who lost their jobs in the August election said they may have made a mistake in hiring Feagins as superintendent.            But some current members are thanking Feagins for her work. "When you are taking so many hits and punches, at the same time there are a lot of things to celebrate in our district as we continue to work," board member Michelle McKissack said. MSCS school board, Superintendent at odds over evaluation rubric As for school district business, Feagins says there are more than 70 capital improvements projects in the works including almost a dozen HVAC upgrades. "At this point, we're monitoring as the season starts to shift and not just thinking HVAC anymore, but our heating system," Feagins said. She also says health concerns related to mold and asbestos are being addressed. Regarding Dr. Feagins' evaluation, the board is expected to have the final approval of the measures next week.
