KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Tennessee Titans and the Kansas City Chiefs have traded for veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennesse Titans, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The details of the trade, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, include that the Chiefs will receive Hopkins in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick. However, if the Chiefs make it to the Super Bowl and Hopkins plays 60% of the snaps, the pick would become a fourth-rounder. Also, Tennesse will eat $2.5 million of Hopkins' salary, meaning they'll still owe him guaranteed money. This season, Hopkins has pulled in just 15 catches for 173 yards, but he's also been limited by a knee injury he suffered in the preseason as well as a less-than-ideal passing situation in Tennessee. As injuries to key receivers like Marquise "Hollywood" Brown and Rashee Rice have piled up, the Chiefs' need for a capable wideout has grown tremendously. End Zone Extra: Get the top Chiefs news and insider features all season long Rice suffered a right knee injury in week four that required surgery. In the preseason, Brown suffered a shoulder injury. Additionally, in week seven, WR JuJu Smith-Schuster sustained a hamstring injury. Another extremely valuable aspect of this trade comes from Hopkins' experience. The Chiefs will be surrounding their young receiving core with an experienced veteran who has had a great career. Hopkins is a 12-year NFL veteran in the final season of a two-year deal with the Titans. During his career, he's racked up 12,528 yards on 943 receptions and 79 touchdowns. Hopkins is also a three-time First Team All-Pro receiver (2017, 2018 and 2019), a one-time Second Team All-Pro receiver (2020) and has been selected to the Pro Bowl five times (2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020). The Chiefs will be Hopkins' fourth NFL team, he previously played for the the Houston Texans, the Arizona Cardinals and the Tennesse Titans.
