KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Kansas City man is facing multiple criminal charges after investigators say he shot and killed a 68-year-old man on Thursday, Oct. 3, according to Jackson County court records. The documents list 28-year-old D'Aires J. Gadson as the defendant in the case where William Bradford was killed in a shooting at 54th Street and College. He is currently facing three charges, including one count of second-degree murder, one count of armed criminal action, and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm. Bradford was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency responders and police arrived. According to court documents, a Ring surveillance camera was found on the front door of Bradford's home, which helped detectives in the investigation. The video footage from the time of the shooting showed a suspect, allegedly Gadson, and Bradford in the driveway of the home. Court records said that Gadson could be seen pulling out a handgun and shooting at Bradford. According to court records, as Gadson continued firing, Bradford attempted to run to his Ford F-150 truck parked on the street but eventually fell to the ground before getting into the truck. That is when the video surveillance ended. Court records said some witnesses reported seeing the suspect go through Bradford's pockets before stealing his Ford F-150 and driving away from the scene. After reviewing surveillance footage from other neighbors and nearby homes, court documents said police saw Gadson in several videos wearing the same outfit as the homicide suspect and walking onto Bradford's property right before the shooting. Two days after the shooting, officers found the Ford F-150 abandoned at an undisclosed location in Kansas City, Missouri, court records said. Eventually, police conducted a search warrant at Gadson's home on Oct. 21, which was then followed by Gadson's arrest and subsequent questioning by police. Court documents said that Gadson admitted to shooting the victim and stealing the truck, however, he claimed that Bradford had pulled a gun on him and fired one shot first. Gadson alleges to have returned fire as a means of self-defense, although those were not his explicit words.
