EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The community is invited to the 28th annual Las Cruces Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, Nov. 9. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Nov. 9 at the corner of Main Street and Lohman Avenue in Downtown Las Cruces. Opening ceremonies and medal presentations to the Grand Marshals will begin at 10:30 a.m. According to the news release by the City of Las Cruces, this year's theme will be "honoring veteran first responders". The parade will "travel north on Main Street to the roundabout near City Hall and continue south on Water Street back to the staging area," the City of Las Cruces said. Main Street and the streets that will be part of the parade trail will be closed starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9. Parking will be available to the public at the lot south of El Paso Electric, the Doña Ana County Judicial Complex, Thomas Branigan Library, City Hall and several parking lots located on the east side of the downtown area between Main Street and Church Street, according to the City of Las Cruces. The City of Las Cruces is warning the public that a cannon will be fired near the staging area to mark the start of the parade. The cannon will be firing blanks. People with sensitive hearing should take caution and reports of the loud firing from the cannon will not be considered an emergency.
